Since my kindergarten, the life was challenging me and I could give up and live the life that others pick.
I used to love art and chosen design as my major when I was around 10-11 years old. People wouldn’t believe in me and were criticising my works as poor skill, suggesting to try myself in something else. Moreover, at 9th form I went to art school and my teacher said to me, that there are many art directions and I just should do something else.
What do you think I did? Give up? Hell no!
Instead of 3 hours a week, I was attending art school for up to 10-16. By the end of the year, I became one of my teacher’s favourite students.
At 5th form (2008 year), I’ve started trying myself in graphic/web design. During 3 years, without any really good materials to learn or courses to attend, I’ve managed to launch my first “hobbie”-startups, that were Vampirism Frozen World (mini-game based of Warcraft 3 Map Editor) and Cinemadia – multimedia platform, like netflix.
By the end of the school, I was looking for a job to become Web/UI designer, but companies either didn’t want to hire junior or due my age. Nobody really appreciated my skills or diligence. People from my environment were saying that I should better study programming or start with something else.
In 2014, I’ve registered my own company presence goodevs and started my part-time freelance career. I would barely earn 200-300$ / mo on that, so as other part-time stuff during 2014-2017 I was working as
- Construction worker
- Sales manager (on phone)
- Customer support specialist (hosting/domains)
- Tutor of English and Computer science
- Bike rental sales/cashier
- Sonic DriveIn – Cook
- Hammerhead fred’s – Busser
- Alvin’s Island – Crew member
- Waiter (1 day)
In 2016 I’ve created upwork account and during a year(!) was applying for different jobs without any responses/offers. One day, a client (Elowy Groot) whom I sent proposal couple of month before sent me a message, asking to do that job.

Without much thinking, I’ve happily accepted the offer and did the job. I did it so well, that got 20$ bonus, even though all previous projects he had with freelancers – were rated by him 3/5 or less.
Thank you, Elowy. You’ve made it possible for me to start my e-career.
At that point, I’ve decided to stop all of my ‘side’ jobs and go all-in with my main major. In less, than half a year I’ve achieved top-rated status, met great connections and scaled my business for about 5x times, opened an office in the city center and was hunting for the success.
I was working no less than 16 hours a day for 30 days from the moment we’ve opened the office. Guess what? I was earning about the same or less than my employee’s after paying the salaries & rent and other misc. things, while doing their tasks after work, when I got home. Been hunting for more projects to keep the company alive and lacking the time to eat, not even talking about entertainment or relaxation.
Did I give up? For sure not! At that time, I’ve met my partner and one of closest friends by now – Alex Hall. At that time, I’ve stopped providing cheap services for local companies and started to pick projects, rather than rushing for (?) amounts of projects but quality.
We were young and ambitious and, by now, built together over 50 startup projects and websites, formed AlwaysHighLevel agency and then Toplev.io
Everything is possible. Humans are limitless. Stop blaming yourself & others and act, or accept the failure and remember, it’s only your own choice!
P.S. Those people who didn’t believe in me, still live their lives without jobs or earning at least 3-5 times less, than me 😊.
